Our Practice in Action – Creating Sustainable Clean Technology Ventures in Utility Meters

Since its inception in June 2005, SVI has positioned client companies to successfully secure over $31 million in public and private financing. SVI provides a full spectrum of services to assist clients in addressing the business issues encountered by firms moving their products to market in the clean technology sector.

SVI’s capabilities are demonstrated in the case of a client seeking to market a product which enhanced the interface between utility companies and customers. The client held a promising technology which would facilitate a cost effective, real time multi application capability enabling utility customers to manage costs, and utilities to monitor equipment, power outage and power quality. Further, the net impact of these measures would result in conservation and or reduction in greenhouse gases. Following a period of initial engagement, SVI assisted the client in:

Scoping a demonstration project to demonstrate the capability of the technology;

  • Validating the value proposition of the technology;
  • Identified and mobilized a technology partner to strengthen the technical application and value proposition;
  • Developed a business case to support the successful application for funding;
  • Engaged partners and structured agreements to support the project;
  • Aligned private and public investment goals;
  • Advice on best practices and due diligence.
